Just who is Schrecken?
Well, lets see....
By profession I am an artist.  For years I did *figure finish and sculpting work for some Southern California companies that cater to the aumusement industry (Figure finish means that I was responsible for all of the cosmetic - and sometimes functional - parts and appearance of a piece.  A figure finisher is responsible for the end appearance of what you, as an amusement park guest, see.  This can include structures, static and animated figures, props and scenery.)  My MIB album is a good example of this.  I moved from my native Mayland in 1998 where I was born and spent the first 28 years of my life to accept this new career challenge.  In 2002, I decided on a change of pace, and, tiring of the California lifestyle, I moved back to my native Maryland to pursue a career in graphic arts.

Education-wise, I am a 1992 graduate of the Maryland Institute College of Art with a BFA in Photography, minor studies emphasizing drawing.  Otherwise, anything I didn't learn in school I  consider myself to be self-taught.

My hobbies and personal pursuits include: (of course) doing my own artwork and selling some of it, riding rollercoasters and talking with others about them, traveling, nature and too much to list here anyhow.

I have also decided to include a little more info about my art work here, by gallery.

My general Art Work gallery is a collection of works that I have mostly done on my own, simply to amuse my self.  I enjoy sci-fi, fantasy and horror films and have always sought to build my own monsters.

My MIB gallery is of fiberglass static and animated figures that I have painted to the specs of Universal's art direction.  I did not design any of the stuff I do at my job, but occasionally I do get a little creative lee-way.

Underworld is my most personal gallery.  This one is hard to explain.  Many people assume that I have a dislike or fear of certain animals that I have used here, yet to me (I have always been in the company of cats, dogs and even birds and reptiles for most of my life and I am loathe to live without them) the images are simply an expression of an idea that the animal represents to me.  Some of these images are inspired by actual nightmares and dreams I have had, but others are my attempt to visualize a feeling or feelings that I (and all other people) have at one time or another  had.  This gallery is my ode to the dark side of the sub-conscious, a place that many artists, writers, poets and musicians can "see and hear" quite well.

Then there is the Sub-Basement:  a series of art works that speaks for itself; yes it is about something that I have grappled with for much of my life, and have sought to solve through my artwork.  Some find it terrifying; others see it as an inspiration.  It is not my intention to scare but to connect and inform, an even darker place than the Underworld but one that must be delved into...
